Consignments will be accepted in-store only and at the discretion of The Hitching Post Tack Shop. All items must be clean, odor and stain free, and without any rust, rips or tears. All items must be current in style, in good working condition and repair (without the need for fixes or replacements). Saddles and Tack must be cleaned and conditioned.
ITEMS ACCEPTED: Good/High quality show and schooling apparel and boots, equipment, and tack for dressage, eventing, hunters and jumpers.
ITEMS NOT ACCEPTED: Helmets, dirty or smelly items, dry rotted leather, rusted metal or broken tack, used grooming tools, tall boots WITHOUT zippers, outdated clothing, horse blankets, polo wraps, bandage wraps, quilts, chemicals or consumables
Item pricing is based on the condition, quality, age and to be agreed up by The Hitching Post Tack Shop and the Consignor. The Hitching Post Tack Shop retains the right to refuse or return any item.
If unable to price your items the day that they are dropped off, then The Hitching Post Tack Shop will email you the prices we believe are fair for your items. If you do not confirm or ask for price adjustments within 48 hours The Hitching Post Tack Shop has permission to put the items on the floor at this price.
Commission Rate and Fees
Commission rates are as follows:
Boots and Apparel: 40%* - Clothing may be listed on eBay for a $15.00 non-refundable fee (per item) to be paid at the time of drop off.
Tack & Equipment: 35%* - Tack may be listed on eBay for a $15.00 non-refundable fee (per item) to be paid at the time of drop off.
Saddles: 25%* - Saddles with an asking price of $750 or higher will be listed on eBay free of charge. Saddles under $750, may be listed on eBay for a non-refundable fee of $25.00 to be paid at the time of drop off.
Consignment Boots, Apparel, Tack and Equipment will NOT be listed on The Hitching Post Tack Shop website. Consignment Saddles will be listed on The Hitching Post website.
Consignment Periods
Boots, Apparel, Tack and Equipment
Consignment Period shall be 6 months from the date the item is accepted for consignment and automatic price reductions will occur at 90 and 120 days with the items becoming the property of The Hitching Post Tack Shop or donated to a 5013c charity of our choosing at the end of the 6 month consignment period unless picked up by the Consignor.
Saddles
Consignment Period shall be 12 months from the date the item is accepted for consignment and not subject to the Automatic Price Reduction policy. The Hitching Post Tack Shop will only reduce the price of a consignment saddle when directed by the consignor. with the item(s) becoming the property of The Hitching Post Tack Shop or donated to a 5013C charity of our choosing at the end of the 12 month consignment period unless picked up by the Consignor.
Automatic Price Reductions:
All price tags are marked with the date the item was consigned. After 90 days, the item(s) will be automatically reduced by 30% of the original price.. After another 30 days (120 days total), the item price will be reduced by 50% off original price. After a total of 180 days, item(s) will be automatically donated to a 501c3 charity of our choosing. If you do not wish to have your items reduced or donated, you are responsible for arranging pickup prior to the discount or donation date. You must give 24 hours notice before pickup to allow time for items to be gathered.
The Hitching Post Tack Shop will NOT notify you of price reductions, contract expiration or charitable donations. If you do not wish to have your items reduced or donated, you are responsible for arranging pickup prior to the discount or donation date and must give notice 24 hours before pickup to allow time for items to be gathered. Otherwise, it is the consignor's responsibility to pick up the item within 30 days of the last day of the consignment period. If the item is not picked up it will become the property of The Hitching Post Tack Shop and may be donated to a charitable organization.
Other Consignment Policies:
The Hitching Post Tack shop reserves the right to accept reasonable offers on items. Items may or may not be displayed and marketed on our website, social media, or emails at our discretion.
The consignor assumes all risks and agrees to bear any and all losses which may result from fire, theft or any other casualties while the merchandise is consigned at The Hitching Post Tack Shop. Consignor shall indemnify, release, defend, and hold harmless forever The Hitching Post Tack Shop & Supply, its officers, directors, shareholders, employees, successors and assigns from any and all claims and liabilities, of whatsoever kind (including but not limited to attorney's fees), arising from or connected to the consigned goods.
Consignment Trial Policy: The Hitching Post Tack Shop allows prospective buyers to try new and used saddles. The trial period is 7 days for local and 7 days + shipping time (based on geographical location of buyer). The Hitching Post Tack Shop is not responsible for theft or any damage the saddle may incur while in our possession or out on trial with a customer. However, the prospective buyer is charged the full sales price and must sign a waiver that he/she must return the saddle in the same condition that it was taken.
Payment:
The Hitching Post Tack Shop will not send notification of sale to the consignor. It is the consignor's responsibility to call (502) 245-4672 to inquire about any balance owed. Payment for the consignor’s balance will be provided in the form of a check. If the consignor chooses to have their balance transferred to store credit, *The Hitching Post will take 10% commission in lieu of standard commission rates (to cover credit card processing fees, shipping, marketing and sales costs.
